What is the CAIA Community?
The CAIA Community is a dynamic virtual meetingplace in which CAIA members, candidates, and individuals interested in the CAIA program and alternative investments can search for and connect with other website users.

What is my User Profile?
Your User Profile is a display of non-personal and non-sensitive information which will enable other caia.org website users to learn about you when they run a search based on name, location, industry role, professional interests, and other available filters. top

Who can access my User Profile?
Only the website users who fall within the user-categories you have selected in your "Settings" tab are empowered to view your User Profile.

In keeping with the CAIA Privacy Policy, the default settings on your account permit no one to view your information. top

What information is contained in my User Profile?
The information that is visible to others in your User Profile depends on whether you have authorized them to see your Limited or Full Profile. top

What is my Limited Profile?
Website users whom you authorize to view your Limited Profile will be able to see, and search for you based on:

  • your first and last name,
  • the city, state or province, and country of your listed primary address,
  • your CAIA status (member, candidate, or visitor), and (if you choose to include these fields)
  • your company name, AI interests, and industry role. top

What is my Full Profile?
In addition to all the information included in your Limited Profile, your Full Profile features:

From general info:

  • your "About Me" bio,
  • country of residence,
  • any personal websites, blogs, or social media URLs, and
  • languages spoken.

From professional info:

  • your current business addresses and website, job title, "corporate bio," and job description,
  • the names, locations, and websites of past companies you have worked at, and
  • your other professional credentials/designations.

From education info:

  • the names, cities, states, countries, and degrees conferred from colleges/universities you attended.

In addition, CAIA members may to opt to reveal specific contact information in their full profile; phone numbers, email addresses, and mailing addresses may be optionally included and will be revealed only to other CAIA members.

As a member, you will see privacy settings next to each email address, phone number, and mailing address you add in the "Contact Info" tab while editing your profile. You have the option to include this contact information in your profile, but are by no means required to. In keeping with the CAIA Privacy Policy, the default settings reveal none of this information. top

What is the Community Directory?
The Community Directory is a database of www.caia.org website users who wish to be in touch with other participants in the CAIA Community and have opted to participate in this online feature. The search function allows users to find and connect with other users based on criteria such as location or professional role. top

Who appears on the Community Directory?
The Community Directory lists only those www.caia.org website users who have chosen to make their information visible to certain other website users. Individuals who have created website accounts but not yet registered for an exam DO NOT appear in the Community Directory. top

How do I opt in/opt out of the Community Directory?
By default, your account is configured to prevent anyone from viewing your information. (See the CAIA Association Privacy Policy.)

In order to opt in to the Community Directory, you can manage your visibility by clicking on “Profile” in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. Above your profile, you will see the “Settings” tab with drop-downs that allow you to adjust your preferences for who can see your Limited Profile and your Full Profile.

For both levels of visibility, you can select "Nobody, “Members only,” “Members + Candidates,” or “CAIA Community.” The last option will allow anyone who has an account on our website, including users who have not yet registered for an exam, to view your limited or full profile.

You can change these settings at any time. top

What information is displayed about me in the Community Directory?
The information about you displayed in the Community Directory, should you choose to opt in to that feature, exactly matches the fields that appear in your Limited Profile.

This means that users you have authorized to view your listing will see your first and last name; the city, state or province, and country of your listed primary address; your CAIA status (member or candidate); and, optionally, your company, AI interests, and industry role. top

Who can see me in the Community Directory?
Only the website users who fall within the categories you have selected in the Community Info Tab are empowered to view your listing.

In accordance with the CAIA Privacy Policy, the default settings on your account permit no one to view your information. top

What are CAIA Forums?
The CAIA Forums are virtual discussion spaces for candidates, members, and the general public to communicate on topics related to the CAIA Association and our programs. Each forum hosts boards for several different topics.

Please note that these forums are designed for users to share information about themselves and their experiences, not to provide answers to specific logistical questions. Most questions about the process of registering for and participating in the CAIA program are answered in the Frequently Asked Questions pages. If you have not been able to find an answer there, please contact the CAIA Association directly. Association staff will not respond to questions posted on this forum and cannot ensure the accuracy of information exchanged here. top

What are Public Forums and who can participate?
Public Forums are online message boards in which any individual who has created an account on the CAIA website can participate. This means CAIA members, candidates, and individuals who are considering the CAIA program are all welcome to read and post content. top

What are Study Group Forums and who can participate?
Study Group Forums are candidate-exclusive boards in which individuals registered for one of the CAIA exams can discuss the CAIA curriculum and arrange study groups with other candidates in their area. top

What are Member Forums and who can participate?
Member Forums are member-exclusive online boards designed to facilitate networking and the discussion of broader AI-related matters. Only current CAIA members have access to this feature. top

What is the Contact Form?
The Contact Form is a web application enabling website users to receive emails from other website users without the recipient’s email address being revealed.

By clicking the orange “Contact” tab while viewing another user's profile, you can compose a message which, through the CAIA website, will be delivered from your email address (which is revealed). The recipient can then respond to you via your Contact Form or take the conversation off-site and answer you via standard email, replying to the email address from which your message has been sent. top

How do I control who can contact me via the Contact Form?
You have full control over who can contact you via the Contact Form.

While editing your profile, select the “Settings” tab. Here you will see a drop-down list with the different settings for the Contact Form feature. You may choose that “Nobody,” “Members only,” “Candidates and Members,” or the “CAIA Community” can contact you using the Contact Form. top
