Singapore—Has the Asian alternative investment industry been fundamentally altered by the financial crisis?  On Monday, April 4 at The Tower Club in Singapore, the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association, sponsor of the only globally recognized designation for alternative investment excellence, will co-host with the CAIA Singapore chapter a roundtable program on alternative investments in Asia. The program starts at 4:30 PM. Keynote speakers are Melvyn Teo and Bernard Lee, both from Singapore Management University (SMU).  A panel discussion with four alternative investment industry experts will follow. Registration details are available on caia.org.

In his keynote address, Teo, Director of the BNP Paribas Hedge Fund Centre at SMU, will address the impact on returns of various hedge fund characteristics. Lee, Deputy Director at the Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics at SMU, will focus on alternative investments and sovereign wealth funds.

“The Asian region continues to attract large inflows of capital from investors around the world. It is increasingly important for all involved to understand the specificities of the alternative investment sector in Asia and the interplay between the various asset classes,” said Florence Lombard, CEO of the CAIA Association. “As the association dedicated to alternative investment knowledge, we are pleased to collaborate with our CAIA Singapore chapter to bring together leaders in the industry to share information and ideas and stimulate discussion.”

The keynote speeches will be followed by a panel discussion on the role of diverse alternative investment classes, notably hedge funds, private equity, and real estate.  The discussion will be moderated by Christopher Holt, CAIA, Director of Industry Relations, CAIA Association. The panelists are: Christopher Andrews, CFA, Managing Director, MGPA; Joel Guglietta, Managing Director, Octis Asset Management; and Genevieve Heng, CFA, CAIA, Managing Director, Chepstow Capital Advisors.
