With over 25 years experience on Bay Street focused on investment funds, Mr. Kangas is a veteran of the alternative investment business in Canada.
He was one of the founders of the Canadian chapter of Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA Canada) also serving on the on the Education Committee. In September 2004, Mr. Kangas was award CAIA Charter Number 143, one the first in Canada.
Kangas Consulting has worked with asset managers for almost two decades; structuring and marketing funds of different asset classes. Currently, he is working with many private asset managers in real estate, private debt and private equity fund launches and business development. Previously, he was President & CEO of BluMont Capital Corporation a publicly-traded hedge fund manufacturer and distributor with almost $800mm AUM.
Mr. Kangas worked with Manulife Capital Markets where he developed, marketed and launched three TSX-listed closed-end funds: Manulife Strategic Income Opportunities Fund (MSO.un); June 2011; $103mm; Manulife Floating Rate Senior Loan Fund (MFR.un); May 2013; $283mm; Manulife U.S. Regional Bank Trust (MBK.un); July 2014; $113mm.
Over the years, he has done in-depth product research on liquid alts: hedge funds, listed global real estate, infrastructure and agriculture; pipeline & MLP equities and private assets: private equity including secondaries and fund of funds; farmland, timberland, private debt, private real estate. Mr. Kangas holds a Master Business Administration (MBA), with emphasis in Finance from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he graduated in the top six percent of his class and is a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Business School Honor Fraternity.
