Assistant Director of Financial Research

The Assistant Director of Financial Research provides support to CAIA’s curriculum by researching, writing, editing, and maintaining accurate curriculum content in relation to CAIA’s textbooks, journals, presentations, and continuing education products. The Assistant will serve as an expert writer and spokesperson on areas of alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity, real estate and real assets, commodities, and/or credit derivatives.

They will serve as Assistant Editor or Co-Editor of the Alternative Investment Analyst Review (AIAR), and will manage CAIA’s Academic Partnership Program.

This position reports to the Managing Director of Curriculum and Exams and works closely with the entire Program team. This position is exempt for the purpose of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Up to 20% travel will be required

Responsibilities:
Assist with Curriculum Relevancy and Update Projects (35%)
• Stay current with information, trends, and institutions related to alternative investments
• Interact with academics and practitioners to validate CAIA Curriculum material in focus groups designed to build a global practice analysis
• Occasionally travel to meet panels of experts in the financial industry
• Collect and summarize the information collected during these meetings
• Present the results to CAIA and outside groups, informing the design of future publications

Provide Research and Data Support for Curriculum Projects (30%)
• Write and edit Curriculum materials including textbooks, journals, study guides, workbooks, and updates and errata related to the Curriculum material
• Assist with data analysis of various content materials
• Create and update presentations
• Assist with production and update of certificate material, including the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments and related programs
• Obtain and update data from various databases (HFRI, Bloomberg, etc.)
• Occasionally travel to events, meetings, and conferences to make presentations related to alternative investments, including the CAIA curriculum and AIAR articles

Assistant Editor of Alternative Investment Analyst Review (AIAR) (20%)
• Assist with the editing of quarterly publications
• Search for and source potential articles
• Correspond with authors on article revisions

Assist with Management of Academic Partnership Program (15%)
• Assist the director of Academic Partnership Program (APP) in all of its aspects
• Manage the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding scholarship applications related to APP
• Liaise with Global Business Development in strategies to obtain and manage relationships with Academic Partners
• Occasionally travel to universities to promote the CAIA Program

Qualifications: 

• Master’s degree, CAIA, or CFA is preferred, Ph.D. a plus
• 3 or more years of work experience in finance or investments, ideally in alternative investments
• Experience in writing and research in business, economics, or finance
• Strong quantitative and computing skills
