Isamaria Avetar May 2025 Member Spotlight

Back in 2018, I reached a point in my career where I felt the need to deepen my understanding of alternative investments and expand my perspective beyond traditional finance. I was searching for a curriculum that not only enhanced technical expertise but also addressed the evolving dynamics of global markets, risk management, and the unique ethical considerations within the alternatives space.

What particularly drew me to the CAIA curriculum was its comprehensive focus on hedge funds, private equity, real assets, and structured products—areas I was eager to explore and grow into professionally. At the time, I was considering a transition into roles that demanded a more specialized understanding of these asset classes, and the CAIA designation aligned perfectly with those aspirations. It felt like a forward-thinking program that would help strategically position me for the increasing industry recognition of the importance of alternatives in building diversified portfolios.

Coming from an engineering background, the CAIA designation served me as a bridge to understand the complexity of client portfolios and the mechanics as it equipped me with the tools to apply the concepts of alternative investments at work.

My CAIA journey began during the pandemic, a time when I was fortunate to transition to a work-from-home environment. This shift gave me the flexibility to immerse myself more deeply in the study of alternatives. One of the most rewarding aspects of the program has been connecting with fellow CAIA members—people with whom I share a common interest and journey. What I appreciate most about CAIA is how it continues to remain relevant, consistently engaging with emerging industry topics and trends.
