All 25 of ComplianceAsia’s investment professionals will take CAIA’s Fundamentals of Alternative Investments certificate program
HONG KONG and AMHERST, MASS. (September 8, 2015) – ComplianceAsia, an independent consulting firm specializing in providing regulatory and compliance consulting services to financial institutions and listed companies in the Asia pacific region, and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association, a global leader in alternative investment education, today announced a new partnership. As part of the agreement, ComplianceAsia’s 25 investment professionals will be able to enroll in CAIA’s “Fundamentals of Alternative Investments” certificate program, an online course designed to provide a foundation of core concepts in alternative investing.
“Our team needs to keep pace with the changing nature of the structures and strategies employed by our hedge fund clients,” said Philippa Allen, CEO of ComplianceAsia. “With CAIA’s Fundamentals program, we will be well positioned to help our clients develop appropriate compliance policies and procedures that are tailored to each fund management company’s unique operations and circumstances.”
The Fundamentals program consists of twenty one-hour modules, with instruction provided by CAIA experts. It includes an overview of portfolio construction, risk management, and due diligence, in addition to in-depth sections on hedge funds, real estate, private equity, commodities and structured products.
“We are thrilled to be working with ComplianceAsia to bring all that Fundamentals has to offer to their team and ultimately to their clients,” said Jo Murphy, Managing Director, Asia Pacific of CAIA. “Given the recent stress in the markets, it is more important than ever to provide robust learning solutions and raise the bar for education across the board. We are proud to add such a highly-respected organization in the Asian marketplace to the list of individuals and organizations around the world that are incorporating Fundamentals into their continuing education efforts.”
There are new compliance demands facing hedge funds in Asia today, according to Ms. Allen. Local regulators have been shifting from a “one size fits all” regulatory approach to a more holistic culture of compliance and the encouragement of ethical and appropriate behaviour. “This shift is not something that managers can quantitatively benchmark or measure, so a consultative engagement between hedge fund firms and their professional compliance, tax and legal advisers is becoming increasingly important. Just as important are our efforts to stay as far ahead of the curve in this changing space as we possibly can,” continued Ms. Allen.
CAIA created the Fundamentals program in collaboration with IMCA, which provides investment consulting and wealth management credentials and education. The program is accepted for continuing education hours for the CIMA, CIMC, CPWA and CFP designations.
