The Board of Directors represents the diversity and professionalism of the CAIA Association. Its members work in several geographic regions, from Asia to North America, and a variety of sectors in the alternative investment industry. Founded in 2002, the first board members were Thomas Schneeweis and Florence Lombard, who has since left the Board to serve as CEO of the CAIA Association. The current board consists of six members: Andrew Baker; Jane Buchan, CAIA; Robert De Rito; Peter Douglas, CAIA; Alexander M. Ineichen, CAIA; and Thomas Schneeweis. Three of its members hold the CAIA Charter.
Andrew Baker is the Chief Executive Officer of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the global hedge fund trade association; he has been in this role since January 2009. Mr. Baker joined the Board of Directors in January 2011.
Jane Buchan is the Chief Executive Officer and founder of Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO), a leading independent fund of hedge funds investment firm headquartered in Irvine, California. She joined the Board of Directors in 2009 and was recently appointed Chairman of the Board in February 2012.
Robert De Rito is Head of Financial Risk Management at APG Asset Management- US. Mr. De Rito has risk-management responsibility for APG's Americas investments, including hedge funds and other alternative investments. He joined the Board of Directors in 2011.
In addition to belonging to the first class of CAIA members, the Class of 2003, Peter Douglas is the principal and founder of Singapore-based GFIA, the oldest hedge fund consulting firm in Asia. Mr. Douglas joined the Board of Directors in 2006.
Alexander M. Ineichen has also been a member of the CAIA Association since 2003. Alexander is the founder of Ineichen Research and Management AG. In addition, Alexander has authored many peer-refereed financial journals, producing research ranging from equity derivatives to hedge funds, and has contributed several chapters to finance-focused books. He joined the Board of Directors in 2002.
Thomas Schneeweis, Ph.D., is President of Alternative Investment Analytics, LLC; the Michael and Cheryl Ladd Professor of Finance at the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; and Director of the Center for International Securities and Derivatives Markets. Thomas is also the Founding Editor of The Journal of Alternative Investments and co-founder of the CAIA Association. Mr. Schneeweis served as the Board of Directors' Chairman in 2011.
The primary role of the Board of Directors is to guide the CAIA Association toward fulfilling its educational and professional mission. It is the mission of the CAIA Association to:
- Establish the CAIA Charter as the benchmark for alternative investment education worldwide
- Promote professional development through continuing education, innovative research, and thought leadership
- Advocate high standards of professional ethics
- Connect industry professionals globally
