A New Era of Alternative Investing

The era of the robo-advisor—put your retirement goals into the retirement calculator and get your “personalized” asset allocation—is over. The 60/40 equities/fixed-income prescription is a thing of the past. Alternative investments that are accessible to the general investing public have changed the way investment advisors and their clients think about investing.

In recognition of this change in investing attitude, Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management (DeAWM) is the first to partner with the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA) to offer the Fundamentals of Alternative Investments Certificate program to its client coverage and investment professionals.

DeAWM’s global retail distribution team will be required to complete 20 one-hour modules. The online course, taught by CAIA’s experts, includes an overview of portfolio construction, risk management and due diligence, along with in-depth sections on hedge funds, real assets, private equity, commodities and structured products. A collaborative effort between the CAIA Association and the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA), the Fundamentals program is accepted for continuing education hours for the CIMA, CPWA, CIMC, and CFP designations.

“The Fundamentals of Alternative Investment Certificate Program fills a critical knowledge gap in alternative investments education,” said Keith Black, CAIA’s Managing Director of Curriculum and Exams.

“The landscape for alternatives has changed dramatically and it is imperative that the professionals charged with managing, analyzing, distributing and regulating these products keep pace with a focus that has knowledge and education as its central tenet,” said William (Bill) Kelly, CAIA Association CEO. “The Fundamentals program is meant to be an answer to the continued quest for this knowledge coming from so many newer and more retail-oriented intermediaries and end-clients.”

“As DeAWM looks to leverage its alternative investment expertise for retail investors, we are excited to partner with CAIA,” said Robert Kendall, Head of DeAWM Distribution, Americas. “The Fundamentals of Alternative Investments program will only enhance DeAWM’s ability to provide the best investment solutions to its clients.”
