Mark Anson is the President and Chief Investment O cer of the Bass Family O ce— awarded Family O ce of the Year for 2014. Previously, he was the President of Nuveen Investments, a full-service asset management company with over $220 billion in assets under management. Prior to Nuveen, Mark served as the Chief Executive O cer and Chief Investment O cer for both Hermes Pension Management,
a £65 billion asset management company, and the British Telecom Pension Scheme, the largest pension fund in the United Kingdom with assets of £37 billion and the sole owner of Hermes. Prior to joining BTPS, he served as the Chief Investment O cer of the California Public Employees’ Retirement System, the largest pension fund in the United States with over $250 billion in assets. Mark joined the Board of the CAIA Association in March 2013. He has served on the Boards of the CFA Institute, NYSE, DJ-AIG Commodities Index, UAW Medical Bene ts Trust, MSCI-Barra, SEC Advisory Committee, International Corporate Governance Network, and the Northwestern University School of Law.
Mark has published over 100 journal articles and 6 nancial textbooks and has won 2 Best Paper Awards. He is the author of the Handbook of Alternative Assets, the textbook used for the CAIA certi cation program.
Mark earned a B.A. in Economics and Chemistry from St. Olaf College, a J.D. from Northwestern Univ. School of Law, and a Masters and a Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia Univ. Graduate School of Business,
all with honors. In addition, he has won several awards for leadership in institutional asset management. Last, he has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst, Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Certi ed Public Accountant, Chartered Global Management Accountant, and Certi ed Internal Auditor professional designations.
