Headshot of Jai Doshi

“Shortly after receiving my CFA charter in 2017, I transitioned internally to the Hedge Fund Research Boutique at Mercer. Being relatively new to the hedge fund space, I wanted to find a way of deepening my knowledge of alternative investments as an asset class, given the rapid growth of non-traditional investments. Flicking through the books, I noticed that in addition to hedge funds, the curriculum also covered several other areas including private equity, real estate, and structured products. The uncorrelated nature of these investments plays an instrumental role in diversifying institutional portfolios, especially in times of market stress. In my role as a researcher, it is important to have a solid understanding of a hedge fund strategy’s investment philosophy and process. The CAIA syllabus covered all types of strategies in a comprehensive manner, explaining the purpose of these strategies and the market conditions in which they excel. This has given me the opportunity to apply this knowledge to producing investment research, thus increasing value add for Mercer’s institutional client base.”
