AMHERST, Mass. —The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association today announced that 68% of candidates passed the CAIA Level I exam and 65% passed the CAIA Level II exam in March 2013. This is up from 64% and 62%, respectively, from September 2012. Qualified candidates who pass Level II earn the CAIA Charter, the benchmark in alternative investment education.
The March exams covered material from the revised and expanded CAIA textbooks released in 2012, which reflect changing alternative markets. The new texts include real assets, timberland, farmland, and infrastructure. Additionally, CAIA launched new study tools, including free sample exams and workbooks to support candidates in their self-study programs.
These enhancements have contributed to the outperformance of the most recent class of candidates compared to earlier classes. “The material covered [in] the CAIA program is very practical…of huge benefit for my job,” said Yves Hennard, CAIA, Head of Performance Analysis, UBP Asset Management.
“Employers and investors are looking for professionals with a deep and current understanding of the dynamic world of alternatives,” said Florence Lombard, CAIA Association CEO. “CAIA’s comprehensive, up-to-date program prepares individuals with the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in that world.”
The program is designed to teach candidates how to analyze and evaluate investments in hedge funds, private equity, real estate, managed futures and real assets, in addition to constructing portfolios comprised of both traditional and alternative assets. Membership is reserved for those professionals who pass the exams and fulfill the requirements of the CAIA Charter.
