With the launch of our Open Comment Period on March 5, we invited all stakeholders to join us on this transformative journey, recognizing the need for principles that not only align with the industry's current trajectory but also lay the groundwork for a sustainable and responsible future for alternative investments.

In this second session of the internship boot camp with AIMA & CAIA Association, we covered the differences between traditional and alternative data, applications of both, and how it relates to ESG investing.

Diversity, engagement and belonging remain at the core of CAIA's values and mission. In honor of Juneteenth, our US based office will be closed. This moment marks a day in American history in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed, when the last group of Black Americans in Texas were freed from slavery. While we officially celebrate Juneteenth as a company holiday once a year, our broader aim is to work tirelessly all year long to build and nurture a more inclusive, diversified and client-centered culture in the investment profession. This year, Bradley Ambani, CAIA’s director of finance, discusses how this American holiday can be a catalyst for promoting meaningful societal change as well as helping companies better understand issues of race, culture, class, and gender around the world.

This webinar demonstrated the application of reinforcement learning to create a financial model-free solution to the asset allocation problem, learning to solve the problem using time series and deep neural networks. Using a deep reinforcement model on US stocks and different deep learning architectures, including Long Short-Term Memory networks, Convolutional Neural Networks, and Recurrent Neural Networks. These architectures are compared with more traditional portfolio management approaches like mean-variance, minimum variance, risk parity, and equally weighted. The Deep Reinforcement Learning approach shows better results than traditional approaches using a simple reward function. In Finance, no training to test error generalization results come guaranteed.

In this first session of the internship boot camp with AIMA & CAIA Association, we covered an overview of alternative investments and addressed current trends across the industry and asset classes.
